Why Some Games Are Laggy
Ever play a game that runs super slow or choppy? That's called lag, and here's why it happens.
What Is Lag?
Lag is when there's a delay between what you do and what happens in the game. It can make games frustrating!
Types of Lag
Frame Rate Lag The game looks choppy or stuttery. This is usually your device struggling.
Network Lag Delays between your actions and the game responding. This is usually your internet.
Why Lag Happens
Too Many Things at Once Games with lots of players, effects, or details are harder to run.
Older Devices Newer games might be too demanding for older phones or computers.
Bad Internet Slow or unstable internet causes network lag.
Servers Sometimes the game's servers are overloaded.
Fixing Lag
For frame rate lag:
- Lower graphics settings
- Close other programs
- Play less demanding games
For network lag:
- Get closer to your router
- Ask others to pause streaming
- Try wired internet instead of WiFi
It's Not Always You
Sometimes lag is on the game's side, and there's nothing you can do except wait or play a different game.
Popular Games Usually Work Better
Games with lots of players are usually optimized to run well. Super laggy games often have fewer players for a reason!
